Description: (click here for general notes about my descriptions)
The Ríos Pueblo viejo and Tinajas are fairly small streams running down the heart of the Sierra de Las Minas down to the flat and wide lower Polochic valley. They share a common road entrance in the midst of productive and hot farmland.
A full description is in the Mayan Whitewater Guatemala guidebook.
Descent History: I ran Pueblo Viejo with Maarten Bleijerveld in February 2006 (the water was too low), and Tinajas solo in November 2011, with 300 cfs.
Flow Notes: The gauge on the larger parallel Río Matanzas might be your best online hint. The Río Tinajas seems to have more volume than the Río Pueblo Viejo, but also has a wider bed.
Nearby Tourist Attractions: Bocas de Polochic nature preserve.
