Description: (click here for general notes about my descriptions)
The Río Orocuina is the last significant tributary of the Río Choluteca. They join at Orocuina, at the end of the paved road from Choluteca town. From there you drive up on dirt roads into the pretty Liure hills. The main tributary of the Río Orocuina is called the Río Grande de Liure. Starting at La Burrera it is 9 km of open III+ rapids down to Liure in a scenic shallow canyon.
A full description is in the Mayan Whitewater El Salvador, Honduras, & Nicaragua guidebook.
Descent History: My first and only descent was in June 2017 with 1,500 cfs at Orocuina.
