Description: (click here for general notes about my descriptions)
The Río Blanco is the middle-left of the four tributaries that form the Río Cangrejal. Udo says the bottom 2 km is a "great creeky fast run." It has similar gradient to the Río Yaruca but its road does not go as far. The last kilometer has class III gradient, above that, there is some class IV, and further up...? Like for the Río Yaruca, roads to here may be tough to pass after the heavy rains that are needed for good flow. Start by taking a right turn just after the Río Viejo bridge. Follow the road as far as possible or desired, possibly to its end at the Los Limpios soccer field, 6 km from Río Viejo. If you cross the hammock bridge there, a trail continues on RL for 2 km farther upstream. Descent History: Udo Witteman ran the lower 2 km, years ago, with some friends.
A full description is in the Mayan Whitewater El Salvador, Honduras, & Nicaragua guidebook.
Descent History: Udo Witteman explored this in the 90s. Flow Notes: The Río Cangrejal gauge is helpful for detecting major rains, but it is always better to check in with Udo Witteman at Omega Tours about conditions before heading upstream.
